MALLING ACTION PARTNERSHIP

The Malling Action Partnership (MAP) was formed in 2006 to take advantage of a Government Grant for Rural Market Towns.

Our successful bid enabled us to rescue the West Malling Farmers' Market from closure and contract with a new company, MFM, to run it, which they have done ever since. This year, the market won a National Award, and remains one of the largest in Kent.

The survey work completed as part of the bid for Government Grant, showed that local people wanted more information about local news, events and regular activities. Clubs and societies also struggled with advertising costs and recruiting volunteers. So we contracted with Downs Mail for a bi-monthly insert called 'Malling Mail'. This provides free advertising which we know from feedback has been successful in meeting these needs.

When the Government Grant was spent, MAP board members decided to continue our work. Our purpose is "to support the business and community life of West Malling and the surrounding parishes". The parishes included are: Larkfield, East Malling, Leybourne, Offham, Mereworth, Kings Hill, Birling, Addington, Ryarsh and Trottiscliffe.

Since then we have gone on to support a wide range of local projects in a variety of ways from initial set up help to getting funding on their behalf. You can access a list of projects here.
